BUH Foundation to celebrate 25th anniversary of upcoming lottery

Aug 6, 2019 | 1:52 PM

Tickets are now on sale for Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation’s $100,000 Cash Lottery.

The lottery this year will help the hospital purchase a new ultrasound unit for the emergency department, and three new patient beds for the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

This year marks a quarter of a century the annual event has been running to support healthcare at the BUH.

“It’s an absolute honour to work with this community as the Battlefords and surrounding communities have supported enhanced local healthcare though the Foundation and the $100,000 Cash Lottery for the past 25 years, and continue ensuring its success,” BUH Foundation Executive Director Claudette McGuire said.

She said the lottery fundraiser has helped the hospital be able to offer the best in medical care for the Battlefords.

McGuire said medical technology always advances, and with support from the lottery the hospital has been able to purchase the latest up-to-date equipment to meet patients’ needs.

McGuire encourages everyone who can to buy a ticket and support the lottery.

“All funds raised through our event, including the $100,000 cash lottery, stay here at BUH in the community,” she said. “When you support us you know you are supporting your friends and your family.”

McGuire said the foundation is “grateful for the support of the Battlefords and surrounding communities that continue to make this lottery a success year after year.”

Some of the equipment the lottery helped purchase over the years includes the first cataract program in the BUH Operating Room, two new CT scanners and two mammography units for the BUH Diagnostic Imaging Department, specialized medical equipment to keep newborns and new mothers safe, as well as new laboratory equipment to provide accurate lab results for quicker diagnostics and treatment.

Lottery tickets are available for purchase at $50 each or three for $125. They are also for sale at five for $200 – only 200 sets are available for this cost. In total only 12,500 tickets will be sold.

There are also 50-50 draw add-on tickets available for $10 each or three for $25, and can be purchased in conjunction with the $100,000 cash lottery tickets. The guaranteed minimum payout for the 50-50 add-on draw is $25,000.

Tickets for the lottery and 50-50 draw can be purchased at the BUH Foundation office and the Foundation gift shop.

Winners’ names will be published on battlefordsNOW.

Information is also available at the BUH Foundation website.
