City opens new paid parking lot downtown

Aug 5, 2019 | 4:38 PM

A new paid parking lot in downtown North Battleford has opened to the public.

The lot will provide “quick and convenient access to businesses, at affordable hourly and daily rates,” according to the city.

There is no fee to use the lot beside the Capitol Annex until Aug. 31.

Starting Sept. 1, drivers will have to pay $1 per hour or $5 for all-day parking.

People must first park before they make a payment at a machine with a debit and credit card. No cash will be accepted. When purchasing time, drivers will be asked to enter their vehicle’s licence plate.

The city said it has no plans to create any other paid lots at this time. It is free after 5 p.m. and on weekends.

The city continues to work with Crosby Hanna and Associates, who have engaged with residents and businesses, to develop a parking study for downtown.

The report is being developed and an open house is tentatively planned to reveal the findings on Sept. 11, 2019, at the North Battleford Public Library.

This story was updated on Tues. Aug. 6, to clarify that parking can be paid with a debit card and is free on evenings and weekends.
