Fred Light Museum offers Old Fashioned Family Fun

Summer is a time for fun and quality time spent with family.

That is why the Fred Light Museum is hosting an Old Fashioned Family Fun Day on Aug. 9.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as the day will consist of, as the title suggests, old-fashioned games and activities for all ages to take part in, including three-legged races, hopscotch, and horse-drawn wagon rides.

Winner of Best kept Secret in the annual Best Of the Best Awards, Manager of the Fred Light Museum Bernadette Leslie said the event came about as a way to help draw attention to the establishment and promote what’s happening at the museum.

“We’re trying to do this event as a way to become not a best-kept secret anymore,” she said.

In addition to the classic games, there will be musical entertainment from local and area musicians, and activities geared towards children and youth. For the adult crowd, there will be a few throwback games, including a nail-hammering contest to see who can hammer a nail into a piece of wood the fastest.

While 2019 will mark the inaugural year for the event, Leslie said she hopes it is something that can become an annual occurrence.

There are expected to be as many as 30 vendors between those selling food and other community businesses.
