North Stars Golf Classic: a kick off to the new season

Jul 24, 2019 | 3:00 PM

Coming off a short summer following their run to the Canalta Cup Championship in the 2018-19 season, the Battlefords North Stars may be a bit out of practice on the golf course.

Several members of the team, however, will get a chance to work on their short game along with a number of supporters Aug. 16 at the club’s Annual Golf Classic held at Jackfish Lodge and Conference Centre.

Open to teams of five, with sign-up on an individual basis also available, the Stars’ Golf Classic has been a staple of the August events calendar in the Battlefords’ community for a number of years.

Marketing Manager of the North Stars, Jennifer Whyte, said the Golf Classic is a unique opportunity for fans and supporters of the team to spend some time up close with both current and former Stars’ players.

“Anytime someone is able to actually connect with the players, and connect with the staff, it only increases the awareness of the club and it only brings us more fans and more corporate sponsorships,” she said. “Since we are a community-owned club it is always nice for the fans and alumni, along with current players and staff to come out to support the team.”

Last year’s event featured 17 teams, made up of about 100 golfers. This year, the event looks on pace to be even bigger, with 96 golfers (distributed amongst 16 teams) already committed to the event with tee-off still three weeks away.

Featuring hole-in-one holes as well as raffle prizes, a 50/50 draw and a silent auction, registration for the Golf Classic is available here.

Sign-in on the 16th will open at 11 a.m. with the golfing action to commence with a shotgun start at 12 p.m. Following the 18 holes of action, the event will wrap up with a steak supper at 6 p.m.
