Rotary Club of the Battlefords celebrate 2019 presidents’ windup

Jun 25, 2019 | 4:58 PM

The Rotary Club of the Battlefords hosted its 2019 presidents’ windup Monday night.

Four awards were given on the evening: presentation of Paul Harris Fellowship, the Integrity Award, Past Presidents Pin, and an introduction of the 2019-2020 president.

Warren Williams received the Paul Harris Fellowship. It was Williams’ second time receiving the award and first with the Battlefords, which recognizes exemplary service above self for a number of years.

Williams, who twice served as president with the Battlefords’ club called the recognition an honour, saying he was “truly left speechless,” before offering a word of appreciation for the honour.

The Integrity Award, given to someone judged to be of high quality, sound moral principles, honesty and sincerity, was given to Battlefords local Gary Gansauge.

Among Gansauge’s contributions to the community has been his dedication to the music programs. He assisted with the Community Youth Choir over the last 30 years, while coaching, teaching and playing background music at annual music festivals and other music venues.

Wayne Ray, who served as reigning president of the Club, was bestowed with the Past Presidents Pin. Ray said it was the contributions his fellow Rotarians who truly made his time as president something truly special.

“Rotary is such a diverse group and each and every one of our Rotarians are amazing people,” he said. “They give so much of their time to our community, and each time they do, the community benefits. They’re not afraid to step forward and provide their time to give back [and] to make our community just that much better.”

With Glenda Rye being introduced as president of the Club for 2019-20, Ray said the Battlefords’ Rotary Club is in good hands heading into its centennial season.

“Glenda’s an amazing person, and she’ll do a wonderful job and in our anniversary year,” Ray said. “There’s no doubt in my mind that for our 2019-20 [season], in celebration of our 100th year, she’s going to lead us through the year and through our spectacular celebration. It is going to bring the Battlefords a great year.”

Rye has been a Rotary member in the Battlefords community for over 10 years. She said she has always been proud to be a member of the Club, and is humbled to accept her new position.

“I believe in service above self, and Rotary is definitely the way to do that,” Rye said. “We can give back to our local community, our international community, and we’re all stronger when we work together. I love having the opportunity to give back.

“I have been very fortunate in my own life, and this is a way for us to help others in a safe and very supportive environment.”
