For the second straight week, former Battlefords North Stars Captain Layne Young received a nomination for a prestigious Canadian Junior Hockey League award.

On Tuesday the CJHL, which represents 130 teams across Canada, announced Young was one of five players nominated for the league’s top distinction, most valuable player.

Just last week the 20-year-old from Frenchman’s Butte earned a nomination as one of five finalists for the CJHL’s Top Forward Award after a season which saw him become the first player in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) to reach the 100-point plateau since the 2000-2001 season.

Young finished the 2017-2018 season with career-best numbers for the North Stars with 35 goals and 72 assists for 107 points. As a reward for his outstanding season, he took home the SJHL Player of the Year Award and the Most Valuable Player Award. In his four seasons with the Stars, Young managed 86 goals and 167 points for 253 points in just 169 SJHL games.
