North Battleford will light up the sky on Canada Day
One year after from Canada’s biggest-ever celebration, Canada Day 151 festivities will ring out in North Battleford.
The July 1 celebrations in North Battleford have changed a bit this year. The fireworks display will start at 10:45 p.m. on King Hill, right above Destination Battlefords. City Community Programmer Siobhan Gormley said the change was necessary after the end of the city’s partnership with Fort Battleford.
“The last few years we ran them at Fort Battleford in conjunction with them,” Gormley said. “Unfortunately, they are not going be doing any Canada Day festivities this year, so we moved them over to North Battleford. The length of the show will be about the same as last year, and usually takes 15-20 minutes.”
The funding for the show was helped by a grant through Heritage Canada, which is going to cover roughly three-quarters of the total cost of the fireworks display. The grant was available to municipalities as an initiative to help smaller communities celebrate the big event.
