Annual Kinsmen rodeo returns to the Civic Centre this weekend

Cowboys and cowgirls are shaking the dust off their boots as the 46 Annual North Battleford Kinsmen Indoor Rodeo takes place this weekend.

The ice in the Civic Centre was replaced with dirt as the fundraising rodeo returns from April 29 to May 1 with the riders, performers and animals wowing and thrilling attendees.

North Battleford Kinsmen Club Rodeo Committee member Derek Schmidt said the annual event has ingrained itself into the Battlefords.

“It’s kind of like the rite of passage for spring. Everybody knows it is spring time when the rodeo is in town,” he said.

Schmidt said they have a record number of people competing over the three days this year in events like saddle bronc, calf roping and steer wrestling as the rodeo is part of the Canadian Cowboys Association circuit.

The big draw of the annual rodeo has always been the bull riding according to Schmidt.

“Rodeo after rodeo it doesn’t matter where it is, everybody loves to see the bulls. It’s the last event of the performance and people really get jacked up to see the bull riding.”

Schmidt also extended an invite to anyone who has never been to the Kinsmen rodeo before, as he called it a great show to take in on any of the three days.

The Kinsmen are also proud to announce four time Canadian Pro Rodeo Entertainer of the Year rodeo clown Dennis Halstead is returning to entertain the crowds.

Friday and Saturday’s events begin at 7:30 pm with a 1:30 p.m. matinee on Sunday to wrap up the weekend rodeo.
