A decaying, empty water fountain in the heart of North Battleford will be replaced, thanks to a grant.

Federated Co-operatives Ltd. named the North Battleford Business Improvement District (BID) one of the 21 recipients of this year’s Co-op Community Spaces commitments. The $89,000 will be used to replace the Central Park fountain with a surface splash park, according to the announcement released Thursday, June 23.

Details of the fountain replacement were still to be finalized with city council, according to the BID. A formal announcement is expected at the next Live at Lunch event in the park on July 6.

The state of the fountain was brought up by a citizen at a city council meeting in June 2015. At the time council said it would explore options to replace or refurbish it.
