New shopping app aims to keep business in N.B.

A new app for businesses in the Battlefords officially launched Friday, which developers hope will help consumers find deals and keep them shopping locally.

Nathan Puffalt of NP Marketing Direction said the Shop the Battlefords app will benefit both businesses and consumers in the Battlefords.

“For the first time they’ll be able to see the diversity in business that we have here in the Battlefords,” he said. “We’ve got everything from sporting goods to electronics to western wear that people go to Saskatoon to buy way too often. Now they’ll have that at their fingertips and it’ll give them a reason to stay local and get some cool deals out of the feature and also get some points that go to some pretty amazing prizes.”

Puffalt and Battlefords Chamber of Commerce executive director Linda Machniak and president Jay Bottomley launched the app at an event at the Gold Eagle Casino Friday, Oct. 21.

Users get points or prizes for shopping at any of the more than 30 businesses on the app or donating to the listed charities.

The promotion, launched just in time for holiday shopping, runs from Oct. 21 to Dec 19. Puffalt said it’s not just a holiday shopping app though.

“Based on the success that we have with this initial campaign we’re hoping that it will go to a year-round campaign and then we can start doing promotions for all sorts of different things that go on throughout the year,” he said.

As of Friday morning, more than 100 people had already downloaded the app and the app’s Facebook page had reached more than 10,000 people from Meadow Lake, through the Battlefords to Biggar.
