AAA Stars edged by Mintos
The Prince Albert Mintos came into the Civic Centre on Tuesday evening with conviction, flying out to a 3-0 first period lead over the AAA Stars.
Although the Stars got back into the game in the second, their effort wasn’t quite enough, as the Mintos would ultimately come away with a 5-2 win.
“The first 10 minutes was kind of a crapshow there,” Stars head coach Jean Fauchon said after the game. “I don’t know if we were intimidated from the last time we played them when we didn’t play very well, but the boys, they were able to refocus and step up. For the last 15 minutes there we were right in there with them. I felt we dominated the second period…and we kept battling but then they got a couple at the end there.”
Kyrell Sopotyk, Kade McMillen, and Jacob Leicht were the three Mintos who got the visitors on the board early and often. Their three goals were tallied within a span of just 2:49, so before six minutes had been played, the Stars were in a deep hole.
