Lisa Brokop bringing Cline tribute to N.B.

What happens when you combine the timeless music of a country music icon and the beautiful vocal stylings of one of the most nominated and award winning female vocalists in Canadian country music history? The answer is pure magic on stage.

And local fans of country will be able to take in that magic as the Dekker Centre in North Battleford presents Lisa Brokop: The Patsy Cline Project on Thursday, Feb. 9.

In The Patsy Cline Project, Brokop takes the audience on a journey with Cline’s most memorable songs such as Walking After Midnight, I Fall To Pieces and Crazy. She will also be performing her own hits and songs written specifically for this project.

“When I first started singing, I would sing some of Patsy’s song because I didn’t have my own,” said Brokop. “They are still among some of my favorites today and I am so excited to have the opportunity to honor this amazing lady and the incredible music she gave us.”

As a baby, it was clear to her parents that Lisa was special as she was singing before she could talk. By the age of seven, she was on stage with her musical mother and brother, performing everything from polkas to Kenny Rogers’ classics. By age 12, she was sitting in with other Vancouver bands, and went professional at age 15 when she joined a touring band.

Lisa Brokop is set to celebrate 25 remarkable years of singing, song writing and performing and she notes the secret of her success is simply being true to the music.

“I love what I do,” said Brokop. “Every note I sing, whether in the studio or from the stage, is true. It hasn’t always been an easy road. There have been many curves, bumps and detours. But really, it is the love of the music that motivates each step I take in the business. It keeps me moving forward. And I think fans feel and appreciate that love.”
