RCMP remind residents to take care on icy roads

Feb 11, 2017 | 1:26 PM

After two serious weekend accidents, Maidstone RCMP have reminded residents to take extra care when venturing out on icy highways.

Emergency crews responded to a three-vehicle collision yesterday morning on Highway 16 when a small sedan tried to overtake a heavy vehicle and lost control. The vehicles collided, and a third vehicle was forced into the ditch to avoid the collision. RCMP said nobody was injured in the incident, but the highway was briefly restricted to a single lane.

A second, more serious incident occurred this morning. At approximately 11 a.m. Maidstone RCMP along with fire and EMS workers responded to a single-vehicle roll over west of Maidstone near the Highway 21 junction. A female occupant was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

RCMP said road conditions were a factor in both incidents, and reminded residents to give themselves plenty of time to get to their destinations and always be aware of changing road conditions.
