Winter Games seeking sponsors

Mar 2, 2017 | 4:00 PM

With less than a year until the Saskatchewan Winter Games hit North Battleford, the games committee is reaching out to local businesses for sponsorships.

Games manager Nicole Clow said the sponsorship money they get will help shape how the games turn out for athletes, and the effect left on the city afterwards.

“In terms of raising the money, our budget and what we can actually do and provide to the kids or to the athletes, is dependent upon our fundraising and how that goes. Our expectation is through the sponsorship and fundraising we’ll hit this budget that we’ve set out and be able to offer the best games possible to the kids,” Clow said. “And then if there is a profit on top of that, through whether it is ticket sales or merchandise sales that will then get turned over to the city.”

The sponsorship opportunities have a wide range, with packages starting at $100 reaching excesses of $400,000.

“Whatever a company can support, we’ll work with them to make sure the benefits work for them and see what we can do. If we have to be creative, we will be,” Clow said. “We have a sponsorship packages that allows business to get involved in different ways, whether it is their logo connected to the games, some tickets and VIP passes to the games and stuff like that so I think with that it allows [some] excitement.”

Bringing the community together is a big aspect of games in the past, and she said this gives businesses in the area to get in on the sense of community that comes along with them.

“If you have these VIP passes they’ll get in to see different parts of the games…I think that can only bring the community and the support and the interest level up in the games,” she said.

The 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games will be held in North Battleford next February.
