To say the past 12 months have been sensational for country artist Brody Siebert would be an understatement.

Hot on the heels of releasing his Lonely Town album in 2016, the Spiritwood performer has just captured his first Saskatchewan Country Music Award (SCMA) Male Vocalist of the Year Award this past weekend in Saskatoon.

“What a humbling experience,” Brody Siebert told battlefordsNOW. “I was shocked when I hear my name announced and it really felt great to receive the award and to be recognized for all the hard work we have put in.”

Winning the Male Vocalist of the Year Award was no easy feat as the quality of talent also nominated in the category included his good friend Wilkie-born Brock Andrews

“I don’t think of it as a competition because all the guys up for the award are friends and support each other,” Siebert added. “Brock (Andrews) and I are great friends and we have done a lot of shows together and if his name had been called I would have been extremely happy for him, too.”

Not one to rest on his laurels, Siebert has a heavy touring schedule coming up this spring and summer plus later this week he will be moving to Nashville to help him further develop his career.

“Nashville is the mecca of country music,” Siebert noted. “Some artists head down to Nashville for a few weeks and do some writing, maybe make a few contacts then return home. I feel for my development as an artist and a songwriter I need to be there longer than just a few weeks. So my producer and I decided it was time to take the plunge.”

Siebert is currently working on a new album however no release date has been announced.
