Family of hit and run victim begs for anyone with information to come forward

Aug 25, 2016 | 5:00 PM

He was a father, son, brother and friend to many and all too soon taken from them after a tragic hit and run east of Meadow Lake just over a month ago.

Killed on the Matchee-Neeb Rd., roughly 20 km east of the city and within eyesight of the Eagles Lake Cree Nation, the family of 24-year-old Bobby Lachance is speaking out, pleading for anyone with information to come forward.

“It’s been torture,” Bobby’s sister, Shauna Lachance said through tears at the memorial site. “Torture not knowing who did this to him. Just left him here in this road. We can’t sleep, we’re just so crushed and lonely.”

The collision happened on July 23 at roughly 3:30 a.m. A collision reconstructionist along with the major crimes unit and North Battleford GIS have worked on the file.

The need for closure has led Shauna and the rest of Bobby’s family to raise reward money for anyone with information about the incident. Currently the reward is over $2,000.

“We know something happened and we just want to know what,” Shauna said. “People out there know what happened and we want someone to come forward so we’re offering a reward to anyone who has information.”

Bobby was described as hard working, always busy, supporting his six year-old son, Christopher ‘CJ’ Lachance. He was always there to lend a helping hand to his family and friends whenever they needed it. Doing everything with a smile on his face, Shauna said they never saw him mad and added he had a huge heart.

Another of Bobby’s sisters, Shirley Lachance pleaded for witnesses to come forward.

“I just want anybody who knows anything to please come forward. Come to us, the family, or RCMP and let us know anything you know about that morning which led up to our brother’s tragic death,” she said. “We’re just slowly coming together and can’t sleep knowing how badly hurt our brother was and taken from us. He would never hurt anybody and it doesn’t make sense.”

The family, including mother Norma Lachance, sisters Shauna and Shirley Lachance, brother Shane Lachance, step-father Albert Lafond, son CJ, a girlfriend, as well as multiple other family members and friends said Bobby was taken too soon.

Anyone with information on the July 23 hit and run is urged to contact the nearest RCMP detachment or Crimestoppers.
