UPDATE: Dangerous teen escaped from N.B. Youth Centre arrested

Jul 22, 2016 | 6:25 AM

UPDATE: The youth who escaped from custody at the North Battleford Youth Centre has been arrested at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Thursday, July 28 in the Battlefords area by the Battlefords RCMP.

The youth is now charged with escaping lawful custody and one count of resisting arrest resulting from the arrest.

Due to the fact the young offender no longer poses a public safety risk, the court order allowing his name and picture to be released publicly is no longer in place.

A teen has escaped from the North Battleford Youth Centre.

He’s described as 5’11”, 150 pounds with an average build. He has brown hair and eyes.

He is considered dangerous because of the violent crimes of which he was convicted.

The youth was on escorted leave with two custody workers to attend a funeral on the Red Pheasant First Nation.

“We’ll do an internal investigation to determine what’s occurred, determine how he was able to escape, you know, was policy followed, should policy be followed,” Drew Wilby with the Ministry of Corrections explained. “Our job now is to investigate whether those were followed, to investigate whether our policies were strong enough to make sure this youth was secure on that escorted leave and if there are areas that we could strengthen we will look to do so.”

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of the youth should contact the RCMP, local police service or 911 immediately.
