UPDATE: entire Red Earth First Nation evacuated due to pending flood
Rising water levels have prompted a Saskatchewan First Nation to take action.
The province said leadership in Red Earth made the decision Friday to evacuate approximately 800 residents — as the Carrot River peak is expected overnight and there are concerns about maintaining access to the community.
Around 200 “health priority” individuals were evacuated the previous day and relocated to the Hank Reys Soccer Centre in Saskatoon. The latest wave of evacuees will be housed in several centres, likely Saskatoon, Prince Albert and Regina.
The Government of Saskatchewan is working closely with the community and has deployed flood mitigation equipment, along with a number of personnel to assist local emergency operations.
