The operating room at Battlefords Union Hospital needs some renovations.

According to Shauna McGifford, Fund Development Officer of the Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation (BUHF), the renovations include lights and cameras are in need of upgrades along with a new cataract machine.

“We do about 800 cataract surgeries a year here. We need a new unit,” McGifford said. “It’s important because it is healthcare for our community. We want to be able to help everyone locally and not send them elsewhere for surgeries.”

Every year Saskatchewan Mutual Insurance gives 10 brokerages $5,000 to donate to a charity of their choice. North Battleford Agencies was one of the selected brokerages this year. Half of the donations went to the BUHF with the second half donated to the Battleford Trade and Education Centre’s new building fund.

McGifford said the donation won’t cover the whole renovation cost but it’s a start. A full fundraising campaign will be announced in a few weeks and the total needed to complete the renovation will be revealed then.
