Oct 19, 2026 | 3:43 PM

A driver received $705 in fines after police stopped a vehicle travelling 135 kilometres per hour on Highway 3 near Prince Albert and found a child who was not properly restrained.

The traffic stop happened Oct. 10 during Operation Impact, a national enforcement campaign targeting impaired and distracted driving, speeding, aggressive driving and seatbelt misuse.

Police said the vehicle was travelling in a 100 km/h zone at the time. The driver was issued multiple tickets.

The Prince Albert-area stop was one of several incidents reported by Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan RCMP during the campaign, which ran from Oct. 9 to 12.

Officers stopped 4,028 vehicles and removed 129 alleged impaired drivers from Saskatchewan roads. That total included 38 drivers criminally charged with alcohol-related impaired driving, 56 who received roadside suspensions for recent alcohol consumption and 35 who received roadside suspensions for recent drug consumption.

Police also issued 2,407 tickets, warnings and vehicle defect notices, including 1,090 for speeding, 479 for license and registration offences and 461 for vehicle equipment offences.

In another stop near La Ronge on Oct. 9, police said a driver with an expired learner’s license tested positive for THC. Four young passengers were in the vehicle, including an infant who was not properly restrained. The driver received a 60-day roadside suspension, a seven-day vehicle impoundment, multiple tickets and a $325 fine.

The Saskatchewan RCMP said impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving and failing to properly restrain passengers continue to put lives at risk. Police reminded motorists that road safety is a shared responsibility.

So far this year, 74 collisions have resulted in the deaths of 89 people in Saskatchewan. Of those, over half involved alcohol or drugs
