North Stars head coach and general manager Connor Logan said the large returning group not only brings familiarity with the systems, but also gives the team more veteran players who can show the younger players the ropes. 

“Guys have had the message, applied the systems and applied my coaching to their game. You have a lot more guys to lean on that way. You don’t have to feel as worried about connectedness,” Logan said. 

“There’s young guys that we’ve got to work with to get their game going with how we want to play. Overall, I think it’s been good. We’ll lean on our older guys to lead the way and just start getting that group cohesiveness going.” 

The North Stars had plenty of success against the Klippers last year, posting a 7-1 record in the season series. However, the team isn’t reading too much into that result and knows it has a clean slate. 

“It’s a new season. Every team is different, so we’re just going to go into it like every other game we’re going into this season and give our best,” North Stars alternate captain Finlay Klippenstein said. 

Fellow alternate captain Owen Nelson said the North Stars are ready for a fresh start. 

“We’re obviously excited to get going tonight. We think last season is in the past, and we’re just focusing on tonight and what’s ahead of us.” 

Owen Dyck is ready for his first game as Battlefords North Stars captain.

“I’m not really looking too much into it. I’m just going to do what I can do out there,” Dyck said. 

“We’ve had a good week of practice. We’re ready to go.” 

The North Stars are looking to win their first season opener since the 2023-24 campaign.

The Ultra Print pregame show begins at 7 p.m., with puck drop for NAPA Auto Parts North Stars hockey at 7:30 p.m. on 1050 CJNB, 102.3 CJNS and FloHockey.
