Canada women top Netherlands, advance to gold-medal game at wheelchair hoops worlds

OTTAWA — Canada’s women’s wheelchair basketball team will be playing for gold on Saturday.

Arinn Young had 34 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists, while Kady Dandeneau led all scorers with 35 points and Canada defeated the Netherlands 85-73 in the wheelchair basketball world championship semifinals on Thursday at TD Place.

Canada will next play the United States, which defeated Great Britain 71-61 earlier on Thursday in the other semifinal.

The Canadians held a 30-18 lead by the end of the first quarter, but the Dutch trimmed it down to just two points with the score being 42-40 at halftime.
