Maryska Kardynal shines with three medals at Western Canada Challenge
North Battleford had just one competitor at The Western Canada Team Challenge for track and field in Regina over the weekend, but the city was well represented by 15-year-old Maryska Kardynal who took home two gold medals in the 200-metre hurdles and high jump, along with a bronze medal in the 80-metre hurdles.
“The experience was really fun. It was cool because I got to go against athletes that were from out of Saskatchewan for the first time. I got to go against Manitoba athletes,” said Kardynal.
“Wearing a Team Sask jersey for the first time was really neat and just representing Saskatchewan.”
The success is especially impressive since Kardynal had actually taken an absence from competitive track and field for a few years, even though she still participated at school.
