3rd Avenue upgrades to bring temporary disruptions, long-term fixes in Battleford

Jun 17, 2026 | 3:42 PM

A major infrastructure upgrade is set to get underway in the Town of Battleford this summer, with crews preparing to begin work on a $1.3 million project along 3rd Avenue.

The project will see water and sewer infrastructure replaced, along with upgrades to streets and sidewalks over three blocks.

“One great thing about big projects is residents get to see where their taxpayer dollars are going, and this is going to be a big project. It will help our community understand some of the levies we’ve put in place and some of the investment dollars we’ve asked them to make.”

He noted the project is designed to address multiple infrastructure needs at once, rather than requiring crews to return in future years to complete additional underground work.

While the work is expected to bring long-term benefits, Leslie acknowledged residents in the area may experience temporary inconveniences during construction.

“There may be some disruptions. You might not have water for a couple hours, or your water pressure may be a little bit lower,” he said. “Administration and the director of works will do everything they can to minimize those disruptions or those effects of it.”

According to Aubrey Whittleton, manager of public works and utilities, the project is among the largest undertaken by the town in decades.

“I would predict this is the biggest project we’ve seen in 20 years,” Whittleton said.

He explained the scope of the work will present unique challenges for crews, with multiple blocks affected by construction.

“There’s going to be three, four, six blocks affected at some points with water, sewer and pickups, so it’s going to be challenging to do this. Traditionally we’ve done about a third of that scope.”

Residents who may be impacted by construction, service interruptions or changes to access will receive notices this week as the town prepares for work to begin.
