How Battlefords Minor Baseball teams are shaping up almost midway through season

Jun 10, 2026 | 4:39 PM

The baseball season is nearing its halfway point, and Battlefords Minor Baseball teams have gained experience through league games and tournaments as they move closer to the playoffs.

U18 AA Beavers

The U18 AA Battlefords Beavers sit in sixth place with an 8-5 record. They have won five straight games, scoring 54 runs during that span.

Although the offence has been firing on all cylinders recently, U18 Beavers head coach Dean Dimmers said the team’s pitching depth has been its strong suit.

“We have eight to 10 guys that can throw out there,” Dimmers said. “All that is coming into great shape. In regard to other teams that maybe have six guys they can rely on, we’ve got extra arms.”

The Beavers capped off May in Edmonton at the Darin McDonald Memorial Tournament. They went 2-1 in the round robin before falling 9-3 to the Chestermere Crushers in the semifinals.

Since the tournament, the Beavers have lost just one of their last six games, a stretch that includes their five-game winning streak.

They continue their season June 11 when they welcome the third-place, 10-5 Sask Five Giants to town for a rematch after the Beavers beat the Giants 4-3 in Warman on June 9.

U15 AA Beavers

While the U15 squad has struggled this year with a 1-10 record, head coach Jon Kachur said the team remains focused on player development.

“We have a pretty young team this year,” Kachur said. “We have 10 first-year kids on the team and only two returning kids from last year. So, we’re pretty young with regard to some of the other teams.”

The U15 Beavers played in a tournament in Swift Current over the weekend. They beat the host Swift Current 57s 16-15 but fell in their other three games. Still, Kachur said the team was happy with its play.

The team has had help from pitcher Caleb Hoiseth, who is from Battleford and plays baseball in North Dakota with the Valley City State University Vikings.

“He comes back here for the summer, and he’s one of my assistant coaches. The kids relate really well with him, being a younger kid,” Kachur said.

The Beavers will host the league championship July 10-12. Every team in the league will have the opportunity to advance to the provincial championships.
