“The I Can Games are often the first introduction to the Special Olympics for students and families,” van Dyke said in the release.

“They show what’s possible when athletes with intellectual disabilities are given inclusive, supportive opportunities to be active, build skills and be part of their community. From this first experience, athletes can continue into year-round Special Olympics programs that support sport, health and leadership at every stage of life.”

The release said Special Olympics Saskatchewan offers year-round sport, health, leadership and competition opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities across the province, and said school divisions are encouraged to share information with families about continuing involvement beyond school-based events.
