Caissie helps surging Marlins reel in 8-2 win over Blue Jays
TORONTO — Canadian Owen Caissie, Kyle Stowers and Javier Sanoja each knocked in two runs to push the Miami Marlins to an easy series-opening 8-2 win against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday.
Miami starter Janson Junk (3-5) surrendered a run on eight hits, but struck out three with no walks in five innings to help the Marlins (26-29) take a season-high fourth win in a row.
Toronto (25-29) dropped its second straight before 41,177 in the first game of the season with an open roof at Rogers Centre.
Ernie Clement belted a solo shot to left in the sixth off reliever Lake Bachar to pull the home side to within 5-2. The Blue Jays’ only other run came in the fifth from a Yohendrick Pinango single up the middle.
