Battlefords Humane Society at max capacity as they look to push adoptions

Apr 22, 2026 | 5:40 PM

The Battlefords Humane Society is currently searching for people looking to adopt cats and dogs as the shelter is at max capacity.

They are currently offering 50% off all adoptions until they are no longer at capacity, where they currently have approximately 120 animals.

At the moment, the shelter has various breeds of both cats and dogs with a lot of kittens and puppies.

“We have over 60 kittens tight now, so we have lots of cats,” said Cody Palmer, who works with the animals at the shelter.

“We still have a bunch of dogs; we have a bunch of puppies that need homes. All the animals need homes in general. I wish we lived in a bigger city because I don’t know how we’re going to get some of these animals gone so quick.”

While there isn’t an abundance of any specific dog breeds, a lot of the cats at the shelter are grey and orange tabby cats.

For anyone looking to adopt a dog, it was recommended to people who have a yard for the dog to have some time outside.

“Make sure it’s a fence backyard. Make sure he’s not running around. Make sure he has lots of toys and just a big house to play around with. It’d always be nice to have another cat or dog around just so they’re not lonely when you guys are out.”

For cats, people can accommodate an adoption with beds, cat toys, as well as cat trees.

The shelter is open from 1:00-5:00 pm every day with more information available on https://www.battlefordshumanesociety.com/

“Definitely need to get the animals out. That’s the best thing I could say,” said Palmer. “We’re trying our best to advertise the animals and make sure we have a good home for them.”
