North Battleford crews prepare for pothole repairs as spring begins

Apr 13, 2026 | 11:09 AM

Crews in North Battleford are getting set for a busy pothole repair season.

Director of Operations, Stewart Schafer said as spring approaches and ice begins to melt in the roads, potholes are being revealed in the city streets.

“Our Roadways Department’s top priority is keeping our roads safe for both drivers and pedestrians,” he said.

These potholes can often be hidden under water or melted snow, creating hazards for community members. Drivers are asked to follow speed limits to allow time to react, watch, and try to avoid potholes, avoid driving through pooled water, and obey all traffic barriers.

Community members in North Battleford can submit a service request online by giving clear details about the location and size of the pothole. The Roadways Department reminds the public they are aware of the most problematic spots, but repairs must often wait until the spring thaw is complete.

In 2025, crews in the city filled nearly 9,000 potholes and used about 800 tonnes of asphalt. This was part of the city’s Underground Pipe and Asphalt Replacement (UPAR) program, which funds upgrades to roads and underground utilities.

This program will continue into 2026 with a focus on carryover work in Parsons Industrial Park, along with surface rehabilitation on several roads across the city. The projects are expected to begin next month and be completed by August, with a total budget of $3,800,376.

Residents near the paving areas will receive letters outlining the planned work, including maps, estimated construction dates and temporary changes to street parking.
