North Stars open second round in Yorkton against the Terriers

The Battlefords North Stars are set for Game 1 of the second round of SJHL playoffs against the Yorkton Terriers tonight at Westland Arena in Yorkton.

The North Stars advanced after beating the Melfort Mustangs in five games in the first round. Linken Fisher scored the overtime series winner in Game 5.

In the Highway 10 rivalry, the Terriers took down the Melville Millionaires in five games in the first round. 

The Terriers won the regular season battle against the North Stars, finishing with a 3-1-0-0 record in head-to-head matchups. Yorkton also won both games against the North Stars in Yorkton, 7-2 on Oct. 31, 2025, then 5-3 on Jan. 31. 

In head-to-head competition, North Stars forward Josh Knittig has led the way in points with six (2G-4A) in four games. Captain Anthony Campbell is just one point behind with five points (3G-2A). 

For Yorkton, Jye Zawatsky leads in points against the North Stars with seven (6G-1A) in four games including a hat trick on Jan. 31. William Leonard has six points (3G-3A) against the North Stars as well. 

Considering regular season games as well as the playoff points, the biggest thing to watch for is the battle of the top units. 

Knittig has 10 points (5GP-4G-6A) in the playoffs. Campbell has nine (5GP-3G-6A) while Finlay Klippenstein rounds out the first line with six points (5GP-2G-4A). 

On the first line for Yorkton, Gabriel Courchesne is tied with Knittig for the league lead in points with 10 (6GP-2G-8A), Zawatsky has seven (6GP-1G-6A) and Leonard has four (6GP-2G-2A). 

The Terriers have a 2-1 record at home in the playoffs, while the North Stars are 1-1 on the road. 

Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey begins at 7 p.m. tonight, and the Ultra Print pregame show is half hour before puck drop on CJNB/CJNS.
