Diapers, braces, and bandages.

To pharmacies, these are slow moving items. But within a hospital setting, these same items take on a very different level of importance. For patients, they can provide comfort and support during what is often a difficult and vulnerable time.

That’s why Fisher’s Drug Store donated $18,000 worth of essential items to the Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH).

“We felt that it was important to help out where we could; there’s a need and a demand. We decided that since they weren’t products that were readily selling, we would donate them and put them to use within the hospital system,” said Robb Marcella, Fisher’s Drug Store pharmacy manager.

BUH will now have the ability to distribute these items on an as-needed basis within the hospital for patients who require them, ensuring that essential supplies are readily available.

Marcella hopes this contribution will help ease some of the financial pressure on the hospital by reducing the need to purchase these supplies out of its own budget.

“We added some home care items for home care assistance for patients that have special needs or limited mobility as well,” he said.

For the store’s staff, giving back to the community was their top priority.

“The entire team here believes that we are committed to give back to the community and help out wherever we can. That’s certainly one of our core beliefs as a group here at Fisher’s Drug Store.”
