Table Mountain’s season winds down with one final weekend

A winter of extremes. 

That’s how Table Mountain’s manager Lawrence Blouin, described this winter at the hill as the season’s end inches closer.  

“The weather was plus 8 C one day, and then three, four days later, it’s -45 C with the wind chill,” he laughed.  

Although the weather didn’t always make for the best conditions, the hill remained busy all season long.  

“We’ve had some really big days that were well above average. That is simply because of the weather… it was cold one weekend, the following weekend was nice, so they all waited for the nicer weekend.”

Table Mountain’s last day of the season is scheduled for this Sunday, March 29. 

“We’ve still got another few days to go, if you want to come out for one last kick of the cat. We’re looking forward to a busy summer, to get the place in shape, and get started again next fall again,” Blouin said. 

This year, staff at the hill faced obstacles with their main chairlift.

“We had an electrical motor and stuff that went on us; it was down for two weeks. But luckily, we were able to access a new motor and got it back up and running, and fairly quickly. So it did affect us a little bit but not as much as it could have if we’d have been shut down for quite a bit longer.” 

Overall, skiers and snowboarders enjoyed hitting the slopes, but especially on the newly improved terrain park. That’s something Blouin received many positive comments on. 

“We’ve added another few more features and stuff in there that we purchased last summer. I think it was very well received,” he said.  

As for new additions coming next year, visitors will have to wait and see.  

“There is not much that I can announce right now; we’re running some budgets. We’ll have a better idea of what we’re going to be doing new for next year towards the end of April or into May,” he said.  

For now, the team at Table Mountain is thanking everyone who made it onto the slopes this winter.
