Annette’s School of Dance expands studio space ahead of 40th anniversary

Bursting at the seams.  

That’s how Cayla Nachtegaele, owner of Annette’s School of Dance, described the busy studio atmosphere. She grew up dancing at the same studio when her mom was the owner, and now as it’s 40th anniversary inches closer, she said it is time for an upgrade.  

“There have been so many changes for the past 39 years, but I would say our biggest changes have happened in the past four. We have seen substantial growth, especially among our younger dancers, and have outgrown our space,” said Nachtegaele.  

That’s why she decided to purchase a small church building in North Battleford to expand.

“Our current location has a lot of meaningful memories; it holds such a big part of the studio. So, we will be running from both locations.”

Nachtegaele explained how making the purchase was a ‘no-brainer’. She had originally seen the realtor posting on one of her instructor’s social media stories. Immediately, she booked a viewing and quickly made an offer. 

“Our current location used to be a church, and my mom and dad had converted it into a dance studio. It’s a stunning building and it’s extremely large… once you clear out the pews, you have a large space for dancers to dance.”

This space will allow for more classes and expanded programming as the school of dance continues to grow within the Battlefords.  

“We run double studios at our current location Monday to Friday. There are siblings, there’s parents, everyone walking around, the place is bumping, and I’m excited to allow more space and allow more students to join with our new location,” she said. 

As dancers head into competition season, Nachtegaele is eager to continue expanding her business and looks forward to new possibilities heading into the school’s 40th year.  

“We have lots of fun, there is definitely a bit of adrenaline right now because it is just so busy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
