The cause of a lockdown Tuesday afternoon at North Battleford Comprehensive High School was due to a suspicious person, believed to be armed with a firearm.

Officers continue to conduct patrols in the area.

The person is described as a man wearing a white hoodie and black pants, possibly carrying a firearm. He was last seen in the area of 17th Avenue near 103rd Street and 104th Street in North Battleford.

Any information about a man matching this description is asked to report it to the police by calling 310-RCMP.

If a risk to public safety is identified, RCMP said they will notify the public.

This afternoon, North Battleford Comprehensive High School families were notified of an emergency lockdown.

The lockdown began around 3:20 p.m. and delayed end of the day dismissal.

Battlefords RCMP are on site at the school and are individually clearing the building one class at a time. Families are reminded that this process could delay students leaving the school.

Transportation will continue as normal.
