Ringing phone leads Battlefords RCMP to arrest robbery suspect

Mar 10, 2026 | 12:05 PM

A ringing phone has helped Battlefords RCMP dial in on a robbery suspect.

On March 7, around 7:30 a.m., RCMP received a report of a robbery at a business on the Highway 16 Bypass in North Battleford.

Further investigation found that a man threatened a person with a firearm and demanded their phone and wallet. No injuries were reported.

Officers used a GPS service and determined the stolen phone was just outside the business. They stepped outside, dialed the stolen phone’s number and heard it ringing. They arrested the adult man who was in possession of the phone.

RCMP then searched a room in the business and seized a sawed-off firearm, ammunition, and a baton.

The man arrested is 23-year-old Keshawn Henderson from North Battleford. He is now charged with:

  • one count, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • one count, unauthorized possession of firearm
  • one count, careless use of a firearm
  • one count possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • one count, armed robbery
  • one count, break and enter with intent
  • one count, pointing a firearm
  • one count, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • three counts, firearms possession contrary to order

Henderson appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on March 9. Battlefords RCMP will continue to investigate.
