ROAD LOSS

North Stars fall 4-3 in overtime to the Flin Flon Bombers in a heavyweight matchup

Mar 7, 2026 | 12:28 AM

The Battlefords North Stars couldn’t get their second straight victory, falling 4-3 on the road in overtime to the Flin Flon Bombers. Kobe Sawyer had a pair of goals for the North Stars, while Jack Martin had two for the Bombers, including the game winner.

It was a rough start to the game for the North Stars, who seemingly couldn’t get anything going for the first portion of the opening frame.

At the 4:35 mark of the first period, Ryan Ulmer passed the puck to Daniel Morozov who had it in the slot, before electing to pass to Joey Lies who had an empty net to shoot at. Lies’ 25th goal of the season gave the Bombers a 1-0 lead.

Later in the period at 15:37, Ulmer received a pass from Hudson Brehaut on the two-on-one before finishing it to give the Bombers a 2-0 lead.

After the Bombers took a delay of game penalty, the North Stars got on the board when Raiden Zacharias found Kobe Sawyer on the doorstep, and Sawyer fired it over Bombers goaltender Charlie Tritt to cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 17:12 mark of the first period.

After one: 2-1 Bombers

The North Stars tied things up near halfway through the second period. Adam Konowalchuk tried a wraparound which popped out in front, and Eric Marks scored his second of the season to tie the game up at 2-2 at the 9:27 mark.

A few minutes later, Gavin Granger took an interference penalty, and the Bombers took advantage of it. Just eight seconds into the powerplay, the puck bounced around in front before finding the stick of Martin who scored to give the Bombers the lead.

Like the first period, Sawyer scored near the end of the frame. This time, Marks had an opportunity for his second of the game. He went to the backhand and Tritt made a good save, but Sawyer picked up the rebound and tied things up at three at 19:05, just 55 seconds left in the period.

After two: Tied 3-3

The Bombers had a pair of power play opportunites in the third period but weren’t able to capitalize in the scoreless frame.

After three: Tied 3-3

Just 1:34 into the overtime period, Martin walked into the zone on the left-hand side before beating Serpa as the puck barely trickled across the line to give the Bombers a 4-3 win in overtime. In the victory, Flin Flon improved their record to 24-0-1-0 at home.

In Weyburn, the Red Wings took down the Terriers, so the North Stars getting a point tied them with Yorkton in points, although the Terriers still hold onto the tie breaker for second place in the SJHL.

The North Stars and Bombers face off again on Saturday. The Ultra Print pregame show begins at 7:00 pm with Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey at 7:30 on CJNB/CJNS.
