Economic development update, blessing box proposal on North Battleford council agenda

Mar 6, 2026 | 4:03 PM

North Battleford city council will receive an update on the city’s economic development efforts when it meets Monday evening, alongside a proposal to install a community “blessing box” food pantry outside the fire hall.

The fourth-quarter 2025 economic development report outlines ongoing work to attract investment, support business growth and strengthen North Battleford’s role as a regional service and retail hub.

The report highlights continued outreach to businesses, Indigenous organizations and regional partners, as well as consultations with local stakeholders aimed at improving alignment on economic priorities.

It also details work on marketing materials and sector research intended to support investment attraction and promote the city to potential businesses and investors.

According to the report, the department recorded 115 business and government contacts and 867 business-related discussions in 2025, exceeding its targets in both areas.

Council will also consider a proposal from resident Paige Hundt to install a ‘blessing box’ on the front lawn of the fire hall, near the intersection of the main sidewalk and the walkway leading to the building’s front entrance.

A blessing box is a small, outdoor, pantry-style cabinet stocked with donated, non-perishable food, toiletries, and household items for people in need.

Administration says the location is monitored by existing security cameras and that the project would have no financial impact on the city, as installation would be arranged by the applicant and firefighters already maintain the lawn.

Among other items in the agenda, council is also expected to review an application to increase the number of beds at a residential care facility at 1352-97th Street from five to six. The home, operated by Eagles Nest, provides care for children between the ages of five and 11.

Council is scheduled to meet Monday, March 9 at 6 p.m. in the Don Ross Centre.
