Riders looking for next Gainer the Gopher

Do you want to gopher the Grey Cup with the Riders this year?

The hunt is on for the next big personality in Green and White to step into Gainer the Gophers’ shoes and become the Rider mascot.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders said in a job posting that they are looking for someone outgoing, energetic, engaging, and friendly to step into Gainer’s suit and spread Rider pride on and off the field.

“Whether it’s game day at Mosaic Stadium or a community appearance throughout our province, Gainer represents the heart, spirit and fun of Rider Nation.”

The ad said the Riders are looking for someone passionate about connecting with people and who can be energetic, enthusiastic and creative throughout each appearance.

“As one of the performers behind Gainer, you will be responsible for bringing the mascot’s personality to life in a way that is entertaining, professional and on-brand.”

Some of the requirements include being comfortable performing in front of a crowd, staying in character at all times in the Gainer costume and being confident with improvising.

People who are interested in the job must be 18 or older with a driver’s license, have reliable transportation and have a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check.

For anyone who wants the gig, the Riders are looking for a short video to show their personality and how they’d bring Gainer to life.

“Whether it’s footage from previous performance work or something you film at home. You can choose to wear a mascot costume or other costume you have access to, if this helps showcase your character.”
