Battlefords AAA Stars on the brink of elimination after deflating 9-2 loss to Moose Jaw

The Battlefords AAA Stars are now down 2-0 in the series against the Moose Jaw Winmar Warriors after a tough 9-2 loss at home.

It was a strong start for the Stars, initially outshooting the Warriors 8-1 within the first seven minutes of the game. However, it was Moose Jaw who got on the board first on the powerplay when Carson Deichert fired one past the glove of Stars goalie Luke Norman to make it 1-0 Warriors at the 6:14 mark.

Moose Jaw got an unsportsmanlike penalty on the play, and the Stars responded on the ensuing powerplay. When a shot went off the end board, Graydon Neumeier picked the puck up and scored on a wraparound to tie things up 1-1 at 7:07.

The Warriors answered quickly, when Maclain Ethier scored on a two-on-one to restore the 2-1 lead for the Warriors at 8:17.

Moose Jaw doubled their lead on the powerplay at 17:12 when Carson Park scored low glove to make it 3-1.

Just 0:55 later, the Warriors made it 4-1 when a puck popped out in front and Maxon Johnson knocked it in, chasing Norman from the game.

At the 1:24 mark, Chase Peterson scored his second of the series to give the Warriors a 5-1 lead.

After one: 5-1 Warriors

Less than five minutes into the second period, the Stars were handed two penalties on the same play.

On the powerplay, Maxx Fuessel received pass on the back door before turning and scoring on the backhand to extend the Warriors lead to 6-1.

The Stars got back on the board when a bounce in front found the stick of Corbin Nieman, who scored the Stars second power play goal of the game to cut the deficit to 6-2 at 11:48.

Moose Jaw restored the five-goal lead at 14:40 when Riley Brown took a pass on a two-on-one before sliding it in make it 7-2 Warriors.

With less than a minute to go, the Warriors got a shorthanded goal Ryder Gilroy roofed the puck on the penalty kill to put the Warriors up 8-2 at 19:08.

After two: 8-2 Warriors

At 7:59 of the third period, Deklin Larmer scored on a one-timer to give the Warriors a 9-2 advantage.

Throughout a chippy third period, no other goals were scored and the Warriors hung on for the dominant win.

Final score: 9-2 Warriors

Game three will take place on March 5 in Moose Jaw when the Stars try and keep their season alive. Puck drop at 7:00 pm.
