Unknown liquid warning issued in Battlefords as RCMP investigate sudden deaths

Mar 3, 2026 | 5:24 PM

Think twice before you drink it.

RCMP in the Battlefords are warning the public not to consume unknown liquid beverages after receiving a report of a potentially hazardous substance circulating in the area.

The warning, issued on Tuesday, comes as investigators examine multiple sudden deaths reported in the area over the past week, although it is not yet known whether the deaths are related to the reported substance. RCMP did not provide the number of deaths.

Mounties said they are investigating a report of a “potentially hazardous, consumable liquid beverage/substance” circulating within the Battlefords detachment area.

The investigation is being conducted in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, and families are being notified.

Police said they do not currently have specific details or descriptors of the liquid beverage or substance.

“Given the potential safety risk involved, we are notifying the public in the Battlefords Detachment area to exercise caution and not consume any unknown liquid beverages/substances,” RCMP said in a release.

Officers remain in the very early stages of the investigation and do not have further information to release.

“We will notify the public if we have further information we can release.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP at 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
