North Stars set for final pair of games with the Humboldt Broncos

As the Battlefords North Stars continue their chase for first place in the SJHL, their next couple of games come in a weekend home-and-home series with the Humboldt Broncos. It’s the last two games the teams will play against each other during the regular season. 

The North Stars (32-13-3-2, 1st in Nutrien Division) are seven points behind the Flin Flon Bombers for first place in the SJHL, although the Bombers do have a game in hand. The North Stars are trying to get back into the win column after a 4-3 loss in their last game against the Estevan Bruins. 

On the other side, the Broncos (22-24-2-1, 3rd in Nutrien Division) are desperate for a win. They are five points out of the final playoff spot in the SJHL and have lost in five straight contests. In their last game, the Broncos fell 7-3 on the road to the Nipawin Hawks. 

Last time these two teams faced off, the North Stars took down the Broncos 3-2 at home. The North Stars have won four straight games against the Broncos and hold a 5-1-0-0 record against Humboldt this season. 

When going head-to-head, the North Stars have three players who have a point-per-game against the Broncos. Kobe Sawyer leads the way for the North Stars with six points (2G-4A) in six games. Linken Fisher has five points (1G-4A) in five games, while Finlay Klippenstein has four goals in as many contests.

Through the season for the North Stars, Josh Knittig is the point leader with 55 points (19G-36A) in 47 games. Anthony Campbell is one behind with 54 points (19G-36A), and Fisher (10G-33A) as well as Gavin Granger (3G-36A) have 43 points each which is tied with Yorkton Terriers blue liner Thomas Ries for the league lead among defencemen. 

For the Broncos, Avery Lowe leads in points against the North Stars with four points (3G-1A), while Tyce Penrod has the most points overall with 31 (12G-19A) in 47 games. 

With the Yorkton Terriers just a point back of the North Stars for second place in the SJHL and the Nipawin Hawks three points back, fans will also be paying attention to the game between Yorkton and Nipawin as the race to the top continues. 

The Ultra Print pregame show begins at 7 p.m., while the puck drops for Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey at 7:30 on CJNB/CJNS.
