‘Winter of Extremes’ for Table Mountain as they approach the final month of the season

Feb 24, 2026 | 3:26 PM

Throughout the winter months with cold snaps and warm stretches, it has been an inconsistent season for Table Mountain Regional Park.

“December was cold and warmed up for a few days right after Christmas and cooled off again. January rolled around. we were 6 C and 7 C. Then two weeks later we’re at –40 C,” said Table Mountain General Manager Lawrence Blouin.

“Most of last week was cold. Now we’re going up to plus one (soon), then by the end of the weekend we’re back down to –18 C. So, it’s been that way all winter…We can’t seem to get close to our so-called normals anymore.”

Blouin says that although the numbers are inconsistent with the weather, it evens out with how many people jump at the opportunity to go skiing and snowboarding when the weather does call for it.

“Our numbers have been good. When the weather is nice, we’re busy. We’ve got lots of snow, and we’re in pretty good shape,” said Blouin. “Everybody watches the forecast, when they see it’s -19 C on one day, then two days later it’s going to be -4 or -5, they’re going to make a decision to come out on the day it’s -4 or -5. Our numbers jump up for sure on the days where the weather is warmer.”

The hill did have the Luckey’s Chairlift out of operation for a limited period of time, but it didn’t impact how many people came out during that time.

“It was down for two weeks. That one weekend actually, we had some very nice numbers. With just one chair life running, for sure it affected a little bit, but not as much as I thought it would.”

With February in its final days, the hill prepares to remain open for one more month in the season.

“We’ve got lots of snow to keep us going until the end of march. Our school programs basically end at the end of March,” said Blouin. “With the snow we’ve had in (the) last week and again last night, excellent conditions and we’re 100 per cent open till the end of March.”

Table Mountain is open on Tuesday-Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with night skiing on Friday’s from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
