Win Streak Snapped

North Stars fall 4-3 to the Estevan Bruins in a back-and-forth affair

Feb 22, 2026 | 8:46 PM

The Battlefords North Stars failed to win their fifth straight game in a 4-3 loss to the Estevan Bruins (24-22-3-1, 3rd in Bunge Division). Bruins goaltender Nathan Kam shined bright in the win, stopping 37 of the 40 shots he faced.

“I thought Kam made some huge saves, some timely ones and I thought he was the best player on the ice tonight. It was just too bad we couldn’t get a couple more by him tonight,” said North Stars assistant coach Owen Lamb postgame.

The North Stars (32-13-3-2, 1st in Nutrien Division) got on the board first when Owen Nelson shot a puck over the net. It hit the glass before popping back out in front. Nelson grabbed it and scored to make it 1-0 North Stars at the 6:16 mark.

A few minutes later, Nathaniel Harvey tied up the game for the Bruins when Kaeden Serpa stopped an initial shot, but it trickled past him and Harvey scored his 14th goal of the season before Serpa was able to get back into position at 9:37.

It was looking like the game was going to be tied heading into the second period, but Ewan Rennie put a deflection top shelf past Serpa to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead at 19:58, just two seconds left in the first period.

After one: 2-2 Bruins

The North Stars tied up the game at the 6:12 mark when Alessio Nardelli took a pass from Linken Fisher on the left side of the slot, scoring a quick one timer past the blocker of Kam to make it 2-2.

At 10:38, Raiden Zacharias scored on a similar shot, top shelf on the blocker side. Zacharias’ 9th goal of the season put the North Stars up 3-2.

Like the first period, Ewan Rennie got a goal late in the period. He took a pass below the goal line from Cash Olson before bringing it out front and sliding it past Serpa on the backhand with just 34 seconds left to go in the period at 19:26.

After two: Tied 3-3

The lone goal in the third period was scored by Bruins defencemen Caleb Potter, who got a shot from the point to make its way through a few bodies in front and past Serpa to make it 4-3 Bruins.

With about three minutes to go, the North Stars pulled the goaltender and while they were pressuring for the full three minutes, the Bruins held on for the victory to avoid losing their third game in as many days.

Final score: 4-3 Bruins

The North Stars are back in action on Feb. 27 when they face off with the Humboldt Broncos who are fighting for one of the final three playoff spots. The Ultra Print pregame show will start at 7:00, puck drop for Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey at 7:30 on Friday on CJNB/CJNS.
