Man charged after series of firearm incidents on Red Pheasant Cree Nation

A man is facing multiple charged after firearm incidents that occurred on Red Pheasant Cree Nation. 

On Feb 14, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Battlefords RCMP responded to a call after an armed man was involved in an altercation with a security guard on Red Pheasant Cree Nation and fled by vehicle. 

At approximately 7:10 p.m., officers received a report of a man travelling on a snowmobile who shot at a residence. RCMP responded immediately and attempted a traffic stop on the snowmobile. The man failed to stop, discarded the firearm and attempted to flee. He was arrested on the scene.  

Further investigation determined the man was the same individual from the earlier altercation who previously discharged a firearm at an individual.   

As a result of continued investigation, 24-year-old Mackenzie Wahobin from Red Pheasant Cree Nation has been charged with: 

– one count, flight from peace officer 

-one count, uttering threats 

– one count, discharge firearm with intent 

– one count, possession of weapon contrary to order 

– one count, carrying a concealed weapon 

– one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose 

– one count, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number 

– one count, careless use of a firearm 

– one count, operation of a conveyance while prohibited 

– one count, possession of a prohibited weapon when knowing possession is unauthorized 

– one count, unlicensed possession of a prohibited weapon with ammunition 

Wahobin appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Feb 16.
