Battlefords Youth Soccer reflects on the first annual Little Legends Cup tournament

Feb 4, 2026 | 2:45 PM

Over the past couple of weekends, the Little Legends Cup, an indoor U9 and U11 soccer tournament, was hosted at the Nationwide Fieldhouse by Battlefords Youth Soccer Inc. It was the first time that the tournament was held.

While the club has hosted exhibition matchups before, hosting a tournament is a much different experience and club director Kat Huxley described it as “absolutely amazing.”

“Our feedback from both our own teams and their families, as well as the teams that traveled to North Battleford to play and their families was very positive and very excited that they could participate in this first ever Little Legends Cup.”

The U11 took pace during the weekend of Jan. 23-25, while the U9 tournament was the following weekend on Jan. 30 to Feb. 1. They had eight teams in both divisions, with teams from Lloydminster, Warman, Saskatoon, and Prince Albert to participate in the tournament.

Huxley said she would like the club to add older age groups to the tournament but are unable to at the moment.

“Due to the field size in our facility, we’re not super equipped to be able to do that. If we end up with a full-size facility one day, we will definitely be expanding Little Legends Cup to include more age groups,” said Huxley, who confirmed that the U9 and U11 tournament will be happening again in January of 2027 after so many people helped out to make this year’s tournament a success.

“Our sponsors, those are the people that really make it happen, which is amazing. We had community partnerships step up so quickly and so willingly to participate in our sponsorship program and for the Little Legends Cup,” said Huxley. “As well as our families and athletes on teams that weren’t in the tournament within our club, willing to volunteer their time and ensure the canteen was run, anything else that needed to be completed. We had people super willing to volunteer their time for that, which just shows how great our soccer community is in the Battlefords.”

Outside of the Little Legends Cup, the club also had six teams go to the Just Kick it Cup in Saskatoon, with three of the teams taking home medals.

The U19 boys’ team and U13 girls Seal team won the gold medal, while the U13 girls Higashi team won the silver.

The club now looks ahead to hosting the Saskatchewan Soccer Futsal Provincials on the weekend of Feb. 27 – March 1.
