Swinging with the Stars raises record $175K for Battlefords healthcare

Swinging with the Stars raised a record $175,215 for healthcare in the Battlefords this past weekend, marking the most successful year yet for the Battlefords Healthcare Foundation’s annual fundraiser.

“It completely surpassed our expectations,” said Leanne Ducommun, executive director of the Battlefords Healthcare Foundation.

The fundraiser ran over two nights, drawing strong attendance. More than 300 people filled the venue on Friday, while Saturday’s show sold out almost immediately after tickets were released.

“Our tickets sold out in less than three minutes,” Ducommun said.

The funds raised will go toward purchasing a vein viewer for the hospital’s operating room, aimed at improving vein access and the overall patient experience.

Now in its third year, the event pairs local participants with professional dancers while raising funds to support healthcare in the Battlefords. Ducommun said the fundraiser has matured as participants increasingly understand its purpose.

“This year, they’ve really set the bar for our stars and pros and really understand that the true impact here in the winter is healthcare for the Battlefords.”

Since its inception, the event has raised more than $100,000 in its first year, over $120,000 in 2025, and has now surpassed all previous totals with this year’s record-breaking result.

Several awards were presented over the weekend, including judges’ choice, audience choice and most funds raised, though Ducommun emphasized the broader impact of participation. Click here to check the roster.

“In our eyes, all of the stars and pros were winners.”

One performance stood out for its personal significance.

Melissa and Garron Horn are a married couple that did our tap duo,” she said. “And Garron has MS [Multiple Sclerosis] and his story is truly heartwarming.”

“To see him on stage giving everything he had in the name of healthcare and making that difference and shining his light with hope was truly exceptional to watch.”

Ducommun said the community response underscores the growing role the fundraiser plays in supporting care through the Battlefords Union Hospital.

“The bar has been set extremely high,” she said. “And we are just so fortunate for every donation, every dollar, every volunteer, and every sponsor that has supported us.”
