North Stars on the road for a pair of Bunge Division matchups

The Battlefords North Stars are trying to get back to their winning ways this weekend when they take on the Melville Millionaires and Yorkton Terriers. After a 4-3 loss against the Melfort Mustangs on Tuesday, which snapped their 11-game point streak, the North Stars (25-9-3-2, 1st in Nutrien Division) will try to avoid a cold stretch as they continue to chase the Flin Flon Bombers for first place in the SJHL.

Melville Millionaires

The first stop of the weekend for the North Stars is the CN Community Centre in Melville to take on the Millionaires (18-15-2-3, 4th in Bunge Division). Melville is coming off a 3-2 shootout loss to the Melfort Mustangs but have won four of their last seven games.

The last time the North Stars faced off with the Millionaires was on Nov. 28-29, 2025, in North Battleford. The Millionaires took the first contest of that series 3-1, before the North Stars won the second game in overtime, 2-1 when Finlay Klippenstein scored the overtime winner.

The North Stars haven’t been in Melville since Nov. 1 when the Millionaires had the overtime win. Preston Baerwald scored the game winner, while Linken Fisher was the lone goal scorer for the North Stars.

Stars head coach Connor Logan wasn’t a fan of the team’s performance that time out but knows that you can’t dwell on the past.

“We can analyze previous matchups but at the end of the day, I think we’re focused on who we are today and what the matchup looks like heading into the weekend,” said Logan. “Going to be a good one there. They’re a big, heavy team. They know their identity; they know how they want to play. So, for us, it’s playing the way we want to play, playing our identity and just imposing ourselves on them at their rink and coming out with a lot of jump.”

Yorkton Terriers

After the matchup against Melville, the North Stars will take a trip up Highway 10 to Westland Arena in Yorkton to face off with the Terriers (23-13-1-1, 2nd in Bunge Division).

In their last 10 matchups, the Terriers are 7-3-0-0 and won their last game, 4-1 against the Estevan Bruins at home to maintain the second spot in the division.

The Terriers, who are 2-1-0-0 against the North Stars, last made their way to the Battlefords on Nov. 7-8, 2025, in a weekend split when the North Stars took the first matchup 4-1 before falling 3-2.

In their first game of the season against each other on Halloween night in Yorkton, the Terriers prevailed 7-2.

“It wasn’t pretty. Didn’t think the game was as reflective of the score, but there (were) definitely some blatant mistakes. We were a younger group then. Definitely a lot of changes to our lineup since then,” said Logan, who is excited to get back into both the Millionaires and Terriers buildings and look to get some revenge. “We feel like we owe these guys, both of them a good game and we’re prepared to bring it.”

For both games, the Ultra Print pregame show will begin at 6:30 pm, while Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey will get going at 7:00 on CJNB/CJNS.
