Jan 27, 2026 | 11:31 AM

The Battlefords North Stars are aiming for their fourth straight victory when they host the Melfort Mustangs. The North Stars (25-8-3-2, 1st in Nutrien Division) have points in their last 11 games, with wins in 10 of them as they remain undefeated in regulation in 2026.

In their last couple of games, the North Stars have scored 14 goals combined in 7-6 and 7-2 wins over the La Ronge Ice Wolves at home. Both Cole Hines and Raiden Zacharias have three goals over those last two contests, while Alessio Nardelli is riding a three-game goal streak.

The North Stars and Mustangs had a game recently when the North Stars took down the Mustangs 6-1 in Melfort on Jan. 10, both Nardelli and Josh Knittig had a pair of goals in that game.

That loss for the Mustangs was their fifth straight loss at the time, but they have since won four of their last five including three wins against teams in playoff spots.

Since returning from the Viking Cup, North Stars captain Anthony Campbell has ridden a league-high nine game point streak. In that time, Campbell has 16 points (7G-9A). Campbell is also on a six-game point streak.

The North Stars captain, along with Knittig are sitting seventh and eighth in the league in points. Knittig’s 44 points (16G-28A) is seventh in the SJHL. Campbell’s 43 points (15G-28A) is just one spot back in eighth. Gavin Granger is third on the team in points with 33 (6G-27A) which is second across the SJHL among defencemen.

For the Mustangs, defencemen Bo Eisner leads the team in points with 26 (8G-18A). Zayden Sadlemeyer is next up with 25 (12G-13A), while Danton Cox has 22 (7G-15A). As it stands, those are the only three players on the Mustangs with 20+ points this season.

Two points behind the Flin Flon Bombers, the North Stars are fighting for the top spot in the SJHL, while the Mustangs (15-18-2-2, 3rd in UPL Division) are trying to claw their way back in a playoff spot, seven points behind the Kindersley Klippers who hold the eighth and final spot.

The Ultra Print pregame show begins at 7 p.m. tonight, while Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey gets going at 7:30 p.m. on CJNB/CJNS.
