Jan 17, 2026 | 12:45 AM

Despite a comeback to tie it on multiple occasions by the Warman Wolverines, the Battlefords North Stars held on for a 4-3 win in Warman, winning their second straight game.

The win paired with losses by the Nipawin Hawks and Weyburn Red Wings put the North Stars (22-8-2-2, 1st in Nutrien Division) back into second place in the SJHL.

Battlefords opened the scoring at the 11:05 mark of the first period when Owen Dyck put a shot on from the point and Finlay Klippenstein deflected it by Wolverines goaltender Nicholas Goodwin. Klippenstein’s team leading 19th goal of the season gave the North Stars a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.

After 1: 1-0 North Stars

Anthony Campbell gave the North Stars a 2-0 lead at the 13:04 mark of the second period, taking a backhand saucer pass from Josh Knittig and scoring a one-timer in tight for his 14th of the season.

The assist by Knittig extended his league-high point streak to 11 games, which is the third highest all year league-wide.

With three minutes to go in the period, Ethan Dundas extended his point streak to five games scoring top shelf on Spencer Michnik to cut the lead to 2-1.

Just 48 seconds later at 17:48, a shot hit a couple bodies during a scramble in front and Oliver Nottingham took advantage of an out-of-position Michnik, sliding it past the North Stars goaltender to tie the game at 2.

After 2: Tied 2-2

2:49 into the third period, Cole Hines got his first goal since Nov. 21. During a delayed penalty, Hines came onto the ice as the sixth skater when the North Stars pulled the goalie and took a pass from Owen Nelson in tight and tucked it in from the edge of the crease to put the North Stars up 3-1.

The Wolverines answered right away when Trey Markus got a pass in the slot and scored his first goal as a Wolverine at the 2:57 mark to tie the game at 3.

6:50 into the frame, the North Stars penalty kill struck again when Anthony Campbell hustled into the zone to poke a cleared puck away from Pherson Loehndorf behind the net. Campbell found a wide open Knittig in front who fired it past Goodwin to put the North Stars up 4-3

The North Stars 11th shorthanded goal of the season served as the game winner, and Battlefords took it 4-3 for their seventh straight victory to remain undefeated in 2026.
