Police officers with guns drawn were observed last week arresting two suspects outside Shellbrook.

According to information provided by RCMP, last Thursday’s incident had to do with a vehicle stolen from Debden a week prior and suspects who attempted to make a run for it.

Albert Williams, 34, was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from peace officer, resisting arrest and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The car, which was stolen at gunpoint on Dec. 31, was located by police on Cyr Road which is near Debden.

Officers activated their vehicle’s emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop. The car did not stop for police and shortly after, the same car was observed travelling on Highway 55.

Near Shellbrook, officers set up a spike belt, which the car struck, causing its tires to deflate. The car continued moving and collided with the rear of one police vehicle and the side of a second police vehicle before coming to a stop.

Two individuals exited the car and fled on foot.

They were arrested by Big River RCMP. As a result of this incident, two police vehicles were damaged. The police officers inside the vehicles were not injured.

A woman, also from Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation, was charged in relation to a previous outstanding warrant for her arrest.

Big River RCMP continue to investigate. Ahtahkakoop RCMP and Prince Albert RCMP Controlled Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) assisted in this investigation.
